Description

Tin-glazed earthenware basin painted in brownish-gold lustre

Earthenware tin-glazed pale creamy-white overall, and painted in brownish-gold lustre. Circular with a wide sloping rim, curved sides, and shallow convex boss. Two suspension holes have been pierced through the edge of the rim. The glaze on the reverse is uneven and has 'crawled'. In the well there is a circle divided into twelve segments decorated alternately with a stylized plant,and wavy stripes and scalloped lines. On the rim between narrow concentric bands there is a series of leaves curving towards the right. The reverse is decorated with a lozenge shape formed by a V with an inverted V over it, surrounded by concentric circles: one wide, three narrow, one wide, four narrow, one wide, and five narrow.
