Description

Soft-paste porcelain custard cup and cover, painted overglaze in green and black enamels with swags of foliage and flowers, and gilt.

Soft-paste porcelain custard cup and cover, thrown, and moulded, decorated on the cover with applied moulded rose stalk, painting overglaze in green and black enamels, and gilt. The cup stands on a footing, and has deep bulbous sides and a slightly everted rim. The circular cover is slightly domed and has a knob in the form of a rose on a stalk with three leaves. The cup is painted with four swags of foliage and flowers and has gilt lines round the footring and the outer edges of the handle, and a dentilated band round the rim, all mostly worn away. At the bottom of the interior there is a small floral sprig. The cover has a circular spray of green and black foliage and flowers surrounding the rose and stalk knob, and a dentilated gold band round the rim.
