Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, and brownish red. Circular with a slightly sloping rim, curved sides and flat centre with recessed base. The front is decorated in the middle with a view of a saw-pit with two men at work, and a woman bringing a mug of beer. In the background there is an inn with the sign of a barrel . Below on the curved side is the name and date 'SAMUEL : ACOCKS/1772. The rim has border of stylized floral motifrs sprouting from a band of Chinese diaper ornament. The edge is brownish-red.
