Fritware coated in grey slip, painted in blue, black and white slip under a clear glaze
Fritware, wheel thrown, coated in a grey slip on the interior, painted in white slip coloured with black and blue pigment under a clear, crazed glaze.
Shape: hemispherical bowl with a plain rim on a narrow foot ring
Interior: rim is painted black; otherwise all decoration is painted in white slip with a black outline and detail. On the neck, a frieze of dotted circles and leaves is enclosed above and below by concentric bands with a spot of blue in one area. On the body, a ‘Y’ shaped radiating pattern of leaves and dotted circles is barely discernable amongst a ground of three lotus flowers, further scrolling leaves, black lines and dots. Glaze pools slightly in the base.
Exterior: black paint continues on the rim, while on the body a frieze of blue and black dots and black vertical or diagonal lines is enclosed above and below by thin black concentric lines. On the lower body, a pair of thick black concentric lines delineates decoration. Glaze runs over the lower body and in places onto the foot ring.
