Description

Glazed hard-paste porcelain

Greyish-white hard-paste porcleian, press-mouled in parts, and glazed, except for the interior of the hollow base. The three little boys are perching on a rock which is partly covered by a drape, and has at the top, a fountain the form of an open-mouthed mask with a shell basin below it. The boy seated on the viewer's right of the shell wears a Roman helmet and cloak; the one seated on the top to the left of the mask wears a turban and an open coat with a frill round the neck, and the boy standing at the back wears a turban and a cuirass al antica, and a drape.

History note: Sotheby's London, 23 November 1923, lot 24, attributed to Plymouth; bought by the porter for £8 on behalf of Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, Trinity College, Cambridge.
