Description

Fritware coated in a white slip painted in four colours under a clear glaze

Fritware, probably wheel thrown, coated in a white slip and painted in red, green, blue and black under a clear glaze.
Shape: segmental bowl with slightly angled plain rim sitting on a low, wide foot ring
Interior: on the rim a ‘rock wave’ pattern comprises black and blue scrolls and green scallops. On the cavetto blue sprays with palmette leaves form a repeating frieze. Within the roundel, a quatre-foil 'rumi' motif comprising green palmettes, leaves highlighted in red and a central rosette with blue core, all reserved in blue and outlined in black.
Exterior: on the lip a blue bracketed line, while on the body a frieze of stylised floral sprays are painted in blue and green. Glaze covers the exterior surface with the exception of the rim of the foot ring.
