Fritware painted in blue under a clear glaze with partial brown glazed exterior
Fritware, moulded, painted in blue under a clear glaze and with a partial brown over-glazed exterior.
Shape: lobbed bowl with bracketed rim descending via a carination onto a collared stem and pedestal foot.
Interior: the neck is decorated with Kraak panels depicting, alternately, a landscape scene with sprouting vegetation, a bird within a floral spray, or a three stemmed flower amongst scrolling leaves. On the base, contained within a bracketed roundel, a figure is painted in reserve against a blue background. The figure is depicted crossing a bridge within a landscape of sprouting vegetation.
Exterior: upper and lower body is coated with a brown glaze. Between these areas of glaze, just below the carination, a narrow frieze of chevrons is painted. Within the band of brown glaze on the lower body white palmette shapes contain blue painted landscape scenes incorporating stylised pagodas painted. The clear glaze covers the stem runs to the edge of the foot where a concentric band of brown residue is visible.
