Description

Yellow-glazed earthenware transfer-printed in black with a rural scene

Yellow-glazed cream earthenware, transfer-printed onglaze with a black stipple prints. Circular with deep rounded sides, everted rim, and loop handle, standing on a footring. The outside is decorated with a continuous rural scene: a man on horseback and a labourer stand ing near a cottage, a church beside a bridge over a stream, and three cows beside a building with a gothic window. Round the rim is a border of pseudo beading with a scalloped line below. In side, there is a seated cow in the middle, and a floral border round the rim. The handle is decorated with a vertical line of bull's eyes and spots.
