Description

Fritware painted inside and out in black over an opaque off-white self-formed? glaze and under a transparent turquoise glaze

Fritware, wheel thrown.
Shape: hemispherical bowl with slightly everted rim, sitting on a slightly flared foot ring.
Interior: the rim is painted black. On the body scrolling vines terminate in feathery half palemettes or flower heads; areas close to the rim are adorned with small circles. Turquoise glaze pools in the base.
Exterior: on the rim, black paint continues from the interior. On the body pairs of parallel lines radiate from the lower body toward the rim. Dribbles of turquoise glaze cover the foot ring unevenly, pooling in places, over an opaque off-white self-formed? glaze; the latter also coats the underside of the foot, where it is itself partially coated by thin transparent turquoise glaze. Remnants of a thin compact reddish accretion layer coat parts of the exterior glazes, especially the foot exterior and underside with smaller traces on the body.
