Yellow-glazed earthenware, transfer-printed onglaze in black
Yellow-glazed cream earthenware, transfer-printed onglaze in black. Ovoid body with recessed base, cylindrical neck, projecting lip, and loop handle of very shallow D section. The exterior is decorated overall with a floral design incorporating scrolls and panels of trellis diaper on either side of the lip, against a background of vertical striations. There is a spray of flowers on the back of the handle, and a floral border inside the neck and lip.
History note: Uncertain, but possibly the mother of the donor, G.H.W. Rylands, Litt D., CBE, CH, King's College, Cambridge

In 1825 the Montereau factory was let to a partnership comprising Louis Lebeuf of Paris, Étienne Thibault, the director of the factory, and Louis Joseph Merlin de Failly, and became known as Lebeuf et Thibault. The factory operated with this name until 1833 when a new partnership was formed.
