Potter: Mancini Workshop (Possibly)
Buff earthenware, tin-glazed overall; the reverse has brown speckles and is tinged with green in two areas. Painted in blue, green, yellow, and brownish-orange.
Shape approximately 71. Circular with a narrow rim, wide shallow well and flat centre surrounded by a circular rib. The basin has warped.
In the middle is a beribboned shield of testa di cavallo form, charged with the arms of Colonna, or a column argent (shown as brownish-orange with a blue and white column), flanked by the letters `.VI' and `VA.'. The blue rib is surrounded by a border of blue and yellow half-flowers. The sides are decorated with formal plants and foliate scrolls bearing stylised fruits and flowers. On the rim is a border of bulbs and sprays of stylised flowers on a blue ground. The back is inscribed in the middle in blue with an `M' crossed, and round the rim are interlacing blue petals.
