Description

Fritware coated in a white slip painted in four colours under a colourless glaze

Fritware, probably wheel thrown, coated in a white slip painted in black, green, purple and blue under a colourless glaze.
Shape: inverted pear shaped body on a low foot ring, collared neck and everted, rolled rim.
Exterior: on the neck a concentric band of blue and purple. On the shoulder a frieze of rosettes in blue and purple surrounded by green leaves, all outlined in black. Glaze covers the lower body unevenly and extends onto the underside of the foot ring. A signature in Arabic hand painted in black under the glaze on the base.
Interior: glazed but otherwise undecorated.
