Description

Earthenware puzzle jug, pierced, incised and decorated with moulded and applied oak sprays under green and flecked brown glazes.

Earthenware, pierced, incised and decorated with moulded and applied oak sprays under green and flecked brown glazes. Squat bulbous body with cylindrical, neck pierced by circular and triangular holes with a row of incised circles above and below, expanding towards the rim which is pinched at the front to form a lip. Handle in the form of a hollow oak branch, dividing at the top and terminating in sprays of leaves and acorns on the sides, and in broken off twigs at the sides of the neck, each of which is a spout. On the front, inscribed in raised letters 'J.W.L. Glaisher/1912'.
