Description

Fritware with a clear glaze painted in lustre

Fritware, moulded, coated in a clear glaze painted in brownish lustre
Shape: everted rim on a straight neck with bulbous body incorporating a carination in the upper section, sits on a low foot ring.
Exterior: the neck is a copper alloy replacement, while the upper body is painted with a cross hatch pattern with a roughly painted central lozenge. On the shoulder, a concentric band is painted, while on the lower body a frieze, of scrolling tendrils and buds, is enclosed above and below by narrow leaves. Further concentric bands are painted below this frieze on the foot ring. Glaze runs over the foot ring unevenly including the underside but leaves small areas uncovered.
Interior: glazed but otherwise undecorated.
