Earthenware fragment, carved and incised through a cream slip under a yellow glaze

Wheel-thrown earthenware bowl fragment with a red body tone, carved and incised through a cream slip under a yellow glaze
Shape: part of ribbed wall of a hemispherical bowl-shaped vessel
Interior: incised through a cream slip under a yellow glaze, a wide calligraphic register is enclosed between two double incised lines, the letters and decorative circles and dashes between them all enhanced with an extra layer of slip creating a relief effect and paler tone under the glaze, bounded below by an unevenly drawn decorative scalloped band, and above by the lower edge of an incised pattern enhanced with light brown pigment.
Exterior: above an undecorated band glazed in yellow over a very thin layer of slip and bounded above and below by carved and incised ridges, the lower part of a calligraphic band incised through cream slip is visible, the letters enhanced by a dark brown pigment and the decorative dots between the letters by extra cream slip creating a pale colour
