Description

Fritware incised and painted in black and blue under a colourless glaze

Fritware, mould made, incised and painted in blue and black under a colourless glaze
Shape: multi-sided jug with a sharply angled mouth and rolled rim. A strap handle is applied to the body; the base is flat.
Exterior: the rim and handle are painted with blue and in the latter outlined in black. On the body vertical friezes alternate between incised chevrons on a white ground and interlocking hooked leaves reserved in blue and outlined in black. Glaze covers lower body unevenly leaving small areas uncovered.
Interior: glazed but otherwise undecorated.
