Description

Fritware painted in black and blue under a turquoise glaze

Fritware, wheel thrown, with black and blue painting under a turquoise, slightly crazed glaze.
Shape: bi-conical bowl, finely potted, with plain rim and moderately high foot ring.
Interior: on the rim, a black dentilated pattern is highlighted in blue. On the body, a radiating pattern comprising six panels separated by black vertical friezes, with blue edging, featuring Arabic (cursive) inscriptions painted in reserve. Each panels contains an arabesque flanked by roughly painted, long-tailed birds and are framed on the upper body by scrolling vegetation, all painted in black. Glaze covers surface unevenly in a section of the base.
Exterior: the rim is painted with a black band while the body is decorated with vertical black water weeds. Glaze runs evenly over the body, ending at the carination.
