Description

Fritware painted in blue and black under a clear glaze

Pinkish fritware, wheel thrown, painted in blue and black with turquoise spots under a clear slightly crazed glaze
Shape: cono-segmental bowl, thickly potted, with slightly everted rim sitting on a low foot ring
Interior: rim is dotted with blue. On the body a blue and black cross pattern is framed by two identical narrow friezes that contain alternating blue or black cross-hatch panels, the latter dotted with turquoise. A central blue rosette highlighted with black is painted on the base. Trivet scars on base indicate that a tripod was used to stack vessels in kiln.
Exterior: blue dots continue on the rim. On the body a frieze of blue swirls and dots is contained within pairs of concentric lines. Glaze runs over the lower body onto foot ring.
