Two-handled Vase in Antique Style
Earthenware, decorated with classical figures and ornament in polychrome enamels and gilt reserved in a bright blue background.
A tall vase of amphora form with strap handles from shoulder to neck and flaring mouth. The body is decorated with two scenes of six figures in classical dress, one figure a woman. On one side the figures are running with a winged horse, and carrying torches. On the other the woman plays two long pipes and the men dance. The mouth of the vase is decorated with vine scroll; the shoulders and neck with bands of mistletoe, Greek key, anthemion and vitruvian scroll, and the foot with an egg and dart border. The handles and rim are gilt. The inside of the mouth is cream and glazed, with two gilt bands. The underside is deeply recessed, and glazed, with a broad un-glazed foot rim.
