Earthenware coated in white slip carved and covered with a clear or coloured glaze
Brown earthenware, wheel thrown, interior is coated in a carved white slip covered with a clear glaze coloured green on the exterior.
Shape: conical bowl with slightly in-turned rim sits on a disc base, cut away on the underside.
Interior: covering the entire body a cream slip is carved to form a sphinx surrounded by palmettes and scrolling vegetation. The sphinx is decorated with jewelled bands on the neck and legs and with a medallion containing scrolling vegetation on the rear. All covered with a clear glaze with splashes of brown and green.
Exterior: a clear glaze coloured with green runs unevenly from the rim onto the upper body.
