Description

Yellow-glazed earthenware jug, bat-printed onglaze in red with, vignettes of a couple taking tea and a man fishing from a boat. Red enamel bands round rim, shoulder and foot.

Jug. Yellow-glazed earthenware, bat-printed and painted onglaze in red. Urn-shaped with a broad, curved lip, loop handle rising from the rim, and a sloping, circular foot. Decorated on one side with a couple taking tea in a garden, attended on the left by a boy servant, and watched by a dog seated on the right. On the other side is a view with a man fishing from a boat, with a church, a windmill and a tower in the background. Inside the lip there is a gabled building and a spire or obelisk. There are red bands round the foot, the shoulder, and the rim. On the back of the handle there is a spot, a stylised leaf or fern, a stroke, and a line.
