Earthenware, probably coated in a white slip and painted in black under a turquoise glaze
Earthenware, wheel thrown, probably coated in a white slip and painted in black under a pitted turquoise glaze
Shape: segmental bowl with a beaded flange rim, sits on a low, wide foot ring.
Interior: on the rim a pattern of alternating chevrons are contained within two concentric bands. Radiating from a central, cross-hatched rosette, a series of tear-drop shaped cartouches of varying size contain, initially, a cross-hatch or leaf line design, followed by larger versions containing floral sprays, topped by further cross-hatch designs and lined spandrels.
Exterior: on the body scalloped lines, forming ‘m’ shapes radiate from a concentric line. Glaze covers the surface unevenly, terminating on the lower body and foot ring.
