Factory: Unidentified Staffordshire factory
Red dry-bodied stoneware, press-moulded with applied moulded handle and spout, and glazed interior. The straight-sided hexagonal body has a slightly curved shoulder, and raised rim. The hexagonal cover is slightly domed and has a circular ventilation hole, and a deep inner flange which fits inside the rim. Each facet of the pot is decorated with Chinoiserie figures against a squared ground. Repeated on both sides are panels of a standing woman with a dancing child, a standing woman with a child leaning over a large jar, and an elderly man seated beside a pine tree with two birds perched on a branch above him. The shoulder is decorated with six ferns on the angles and vertical lappet-like motifs. The basket-work spout has curling leaves at the tip and at its junction with the body. The lower part of the loop handle is moulded with basket work and the top with stylized foliage. The cover has a central convolvulus flower knob beside a leaf and a smaller flower, and a border to match the shoulder.

The spout on this pot is very close to examples found on the William Greatbatch's waste tip in Fenton, north Staffordshire, but other features do not indicate an attribution to his factory.
