Description

Fritware painted in blue and black under a clear glaze

Fritware, probably moulded, painted in blue with black outlining and detail, under a clear glaze.
Shape: a globular body narrowing, via a slight carination on the shoulder, onto a funnel shaped neck; sits on a low foot ring.
Exterior: on the shoulder black concentric lines are painted above and below a leaf scroll. On the body a frieze of alternating plump birds, with a bib and dotted body, alternate with lotus type flowers and leaves; all outlined in black and painted in reserve against a blue background that, in places, has run onto the forms. Black concentric lines on the lowest point of the body and base mark the end of the decorative theme. The underside of the base is glazed but lacks a mark.
Interior: not visible
