Description

Hard-paste porcelain basin, decorated predominantly in an enamel palette of dark pink, sepia and turquoise with details in blue, yellow, aubergine and green enhanced with gilding. The well rounded sides springing from a slightly countersunk base and rising to a broad everted rim.
The interior with a central spray of pink peonies growing behind a large brown-grey leaf covered with the emblems of the Eight Daoist Immortals: the double gourd, the fan, the flower basket, the sword, the bamboo tube and rods, the castanets, the flute and the lotus. These are encircled round the well by a frieze of pink and yellow tassels pendent from a stylised lotus border in turquoise, pink and blue.
The rim with pink trellis and sepia scroll diaper borders arranged one above the other and reserved with eight quatrefoil vignettes alternately enclosing pink peony sprigs, lozenge and conch shell emblems. The underside with three peonies in iron-red
