Bear holding a dog in its forepaws
Pottery: Unidentified Staffordshire Pottery
White salt-glazed stoneware decorated with rouletting, in the form of a bear holding a dog
Off-white stoneware, thrown in two parts wth applied ears, muzzle, tongue, limbs, and tail, rouletted decoration, and salt-glaze. The bear's body is slightly waisted and has a plain cylindrical neck at the top and two zones of horizontal bands of rouletted decoration with a plain area between them. The base has concentric bands of rouletting. The head is made separately to serve as a cup. It is decorated with concentric bands of rouletting and has a circular hole pierced in the muzzle to take a ring. The bear holds a small snarling dog in its ribbon-like forepaws.
