Description

White salt-glazed stoneware with shredded clay fur, and details in brown slip

Off-white stoneware, thrown in two parts, with applied tail, legs, snout, eyes, ears, and chain. The endearingly tubby body and detachable head are covered in shredded clay fur. Brown slip was applied to indicate the toes on the front feet, to create a border of slanting Ss on the collar, and to fill in the centres of the circular eyes. The top of the snout was pierced to take the top ring of a six link chain which may originally have had a ball attached to it.
