Brown earthenware with slip decoration and an amber glaze
Brown wheel thrown earthenware; coated with a dark brown slip with lighter brown slip painted decoration, incised around the edges under an amber glaze.
Shape: Conical bowl wheel thrown with slightly in-turned rim and a disc base which has been cut away on the interior.
Interior: Coated in dark brown slip with designs painted in light brown slip and defined with incised edges. On the body a frieze of repeating fleur-de-lis and ‘V’ shapes is enclosed by concentric lines below the rim and above the base. On the roundel a rosette pattern is painted. Three spur marks around the edge of this roundel indicate the use of a tripod stacking device during firing.
Exterior: Decorated with an amber glaze over a thin brown slip that covers vessel body up to the base or just above the base.
