Pearlware jug, with, on each side, an arrangement of flowers and foliage in polychrome enamels, and inscribed on the front 'A. PRESENT/FOR TOBY/-1823-'.
Jug. Pearlware. White earthenware with blue-tinted lead-glaze, painted overglaze in blue, green, yellow, orange, pale purple and dark reddish-brown enamel-colours. Ovoid with rounded projecting footring, short cylindrical neck with projecting, curved lip, and half S-shaped handle. Painted on each side with an arrangement of flowers and foliage including roses, and inscribed on the front in brown 'A. PRESENT/FOR TOBY/-1823-', with a floral spray above and below. The neck is decorated with a continuous floral spray with brown bands above and below. There is a brown band round the footring and a stylised spray of foliage down the back of the handle.
