Description

Cream earthenware, six-sided oval dessert dish, painted underglaze in greyish-blue, green, brownish-yellow, and manganese with swags and bell flowers.

Pale cream earthenware, moulded, pierced, and painted in dark greyish-blue, green and brownish-yellow, and with a little manganese, under pale yellow lead glaze. The dish stands on an oval footring. The oval, six-sided rim, has an alternately cusped and scalloped rim edged by feathery scrolls from which swags and drops of bell flowers are suspended. In each of the spaces enclosed by the swags there is a pierced motif comprising a four-petalled stylised flower flanked by sprays of leaves. The raised edge and swags, and drops are picked out in three colours. In the centre there is a shaped depression edged in green and decorated with blue, green and yellow splodges and groups of four manganese dots.
