Potter: Unknown
Fritware, painted in black and blue under a clear glaze
Buff fritware, wheel thrown, painted in black and blue under a clear, slightly crazed, glaze with greenish tint.
Shape: flat everted rim on a hemispherical bowl sitting on a low, wide foot ring.
Interior: painted on the rim, a narrow band of blue dots and a wider frieze of hour glass shapes in blue or black. On the body, a frieze of cross-hatched blue palmettes is painted against a background of black lines and leaves. On the base, another frieze of alternately coloured hour glass shapes frames a roundel in which a six pointed black star, containing a palmette, is painted against a blue cross-hatched background. Scars on the base possibly result from impurities in the fabric, which have exploded in the kiln.
Exterior: rim is painted black, while on the body a frieze of black, feathery foliage is interspersed with large blue dots, all contained within concentric black lines.
