Description

Buff earthenware, wheel thrown, with incised and applied decoration under a turquoise crazed alkaline glaze.
Shape: flange rim on a straight neck and bi-conical body with a flaring foot ring base. Twisted rope handles, with thumb rests and applied clay discs, are attached to the upper neck to the body at the point of carination where lugs, are present.
Decoration: incised chevron pattern on the upper and mid points on the neck with applied clay chevrons on the lower neck. On the upper body, vertical fluting is incised above a band of rouletted decoration and further incised chevrons. Turquoise glaze covers the body unevenly, with a large section of the body uncovered and terminating on the foot.
