Description

Red-brown earthenware with cream slip, incised and painted decoration under a clear glaze

Red-brown wheel-thrown earthenware coated with a cream slip and incised decoration largely delimiting painted green, yellow and brown patterns under a clear glaze.
Shape: Carinated, bowl with plain rim and low foot ring.
Interior: coated in a cream slip with decoration formed through incised lines containing areas of colour pigment. Rim is painted yellow above a frieze on the upper body comprising cream scrolling foliage against a yellow background interspersed with green circles containing a cream palmette on a brown background. On the base, a criss-cross pattern of yellow and green petal shapes, dotted with brown, are painted against the cream slipped background.
Exterior: Cream slip runs down upper section of body.
