Glazed bone china or hybrid porcelain mug, painted underglaze in blue and decorated with a biscuit medallion
Bone china or hybrid poprcelain mug, with an applied, moulded, biscuit relief medallion, underglaze blue ground, and gilding. Cylindrical with rounded projecting footring, slightly projecting rim, and scrolled loop handle. Decorated on the front with an oval portrait medallion of George IV. the shoulders facing front, the head, wearing a laurel wreath, in profile to left, with the legend 'GEORGIVS IV DEI GRATIA BRITANNIARUM REX', reserved in blue ground. There are gilt bands round the medallion, the base, the rim, and the inside of the rim. The handle is decorated in gold with a leav, and scrolls. On the base is an applied, or possibly integrally moulded, oval panel, with in relief a wreath enclosing 'JULY XIX/MDCCCXXIX'.

The day and the month are those of George IV's Coronation, byut that took place in 1821 not 1829. This mug therefore appears to have been made for some kind of commemorative event in 1829.
