Description

Red earthenware decorated with cream slip, and applied moulded reliefs, touched with cobalt-blue under lead-glaze.

Red earthenware decorated with cream slip, and applied moulded reliefs, touched with cobalt-blue under lead-glaze. The teapot has a bulbous body rising from a spreading foot with incorved sides, a curved spout, loop handle, and a very slightly conical cover with a turnip-shaped knob. There are cream slip bands round the spout and cover, and a dab on the top of the handle. On each side of the body there is an applied moulded relief of the Royal Arms with the motto DIE ET MON DIT (sic) on a ribbon, and a squirrel below. The cover is decorated with a squirrel, a bird, and a trefoil leaf.
