Description

Pearlware teapot and cover, part of a set with two cups and saucers, transfver-rpinted underglaze blue with landscapes and floral borders.

White earthenware transfer-printed under slightly blue-tinted glaze (pearlware). The pot has a globular body with a short cylindrical neck, straight sloping spout, and strap handle, and stands on a footring. The circular domed cover has flange which fits inside the neck of the pot, a ventilation hole in the top, and a ball-shaped knob. Both sides of the pot are decorated with the same transfer-print of a landscape in which on the right is a cottage beside two trees; in the middle, a pond in which two cows are standing; two people in the distance; another tree on the left; and distant hills. On the shoulder, and around the ecdge of the cover there is a floral border.
