Description

Glazed hard-paste porcelain

Hard-paste porcelain, press-moulded, and glazed, except for the underside which is closed, and has a small central ventilation hole surrounded by an approximately almond-shaped footring set in from the perimetre of the base. There is a large tear in the paste wtihin the footring with two short cracks extending from it at opposing ends, and two short cracks one of which runs under the footring. The figure is supported on a shallow base with curved scrolled edges at the front and back, and short foliated edges at either end. The woman stands on her right leg with her left advanced, her right hand held out and up and her left extended to the side. In each hand she holds a small jar with a flat top, and a central hole. Her hair is dressed with curls at the front, and three plaits at the back held up to the top of her head by a bow. She wears a frilled choker a loose jacket with three-quarter sleeves and ruffles, which is open at the front to reveal a bodice with a short basque, and skirt with a flounce at the bottom, and buckled shoes. Around her shoulders she has a short cape tied at the front with a bow.
