Description

Yellow-glazed earthenware slop basin, bat-printed onglaze in red on both sides with a vignette of a couple taking tea out-of-doors. Red enamel bands round rim and foot.

Slop basin from a tea set. Yellow-glazed earthenware bat-printed and painted in brownish-red enamel. Circular with deep curved sides, standing on a low foot. Decorated on opposing sides with the same print of a couple taking tea out-of-doors. They sit on a settee with a circular tea table in front of them, accompanied by a small dog who sits expectantly on the right. Behind them is a tree, and on the right part of a balustrade and some plants. On the left, a servant stands pouring water from a kettle into a teapot. There is a broad brownish-red band round the foot and rim, and a narrow band on the interior about a third of the way down.
