Boy on a Recumbent Lion
Maker: Unidentified Staffordshire Pottery
White salt-glazed stoneware figure of a boy on a lion's back
Off-white stoneware, press-moulded, decorated with brown slip for the boy's eyes and salt-glazed. The piece was made in two halves and joined together. The boy reclines on his side on the recumbent lion's back, holding a plant in front of himself.
History note: Sidney Hand of Grafton Street, W.1, from whom purchased for £17, on 9 June 1922 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
