Description

Red earthenware, thrown, coated in white slip with incised and cut away decoration under yellow lead-glaze. The bulbous jug has a short neck, with a pinched lip, and a loop handle with a coil at the bottom. On the front is a representation of a glass and a jug, below which is the inscription 'Richd & Mary Dinnis Monkleigh May 12 1836. The tulip and the butter Fly Appears in gayer tints Than I let me be drest Fine as Flise worms and Flours exceed me still'.
To the left is a tulip growing in a pot, a butterfly, and the words 'Robt Fishley Maker Fremington'. To the right is a bird on a spray. In a heart shaped panel below the handle are the words 'This small jug In friendship Take and keep it For the givers Sake Fanny Fishley'
