The figures on the dish were drawn from four printed sources. The warrior on the left was adapted and reversed from Sol by the Monogramist I.B. The bearded man on the right was derived from a figure on the extreme left of the balcony in the Martyrdom of St Lawrence engraved by Marcantonio Raimondi after Baccio Bandinelli, again reversed. The man in the centre was probably based on a man in the middle of the balcony in the same print. The putto is a reversed, draped and wingless version of Cupid in the Death of Cleopatra, engraved by Agostino Veneziano after Raphael
