Production: Unidentified Staffordshire factory (Possibly)
Earthenware reclining cat, decorated with manganese-purple and green under lead-glaze
Cream earthenware, press-moulded, and decorated overall with oval cream patches reserved in a manganese-purple ground and a little dark green; the underside is closed and unglazed. The cat reclines with its front paws tucked in and its tail curving round its left hind leg. The outlines of its eyes are incised and filled in with dark green.
History note: Puttick & Simpson, 10 March 1922, one of four figures of cats in lot 30; purchased by Mack for 4½ guineas on behalf of Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
