Innkeeper
Production: Unidentified Staffordshire factory
Cream earthenware decorated with clear, green, and grey lead-glazes
Cream earthenware, press-moulded and decorated with clear, green and grey lead-glazes. The underside is open and glazed around the lower edge. The man stands in front of a tree stump with his feet apart factng the viewer. On his head he has a short wig with a curl round the lower edge. He wears a knee-length coat over a shirt and waistcoat, knee-length breeches, stockings, and buckled shoes. His right hand is tucked into his jacket and his left rests on a napkin or cloth wound around his waist. The grey and green glazes are applied randomly on his costume and have run into each other.
