Lady
Production: Unidentified Staffordshire factory
Cream earthenware decorated with oxide colours under lead-glaze
Dark cream earthenware, press-moulded, and decorated with streaks of greyish-blue, green, yellow and manganese-brown oxide colours under lead glaze. The lady stands on a shallow heart-shaped base with a low cylindrical support at the back. She faces towards the viewer with her feet neatly placed a little apart. She wears an open robe with a decolleté neckline,. yellow robings, and elbow-length sleeves with flounces, a stomacher, and a three tiered petticoat. She rests her lower arms on the top of the skirt which is extended at the sides by an elongated hoop worn underneath. Her eyes and shoes are dark brown.

This figure was attributed to Thomas Whieldon in Rackham's Catalogue of the Glaisher Collection (1935) , but could have been made by other potters in north Staffordshire during the third quarter of the 18th century.
