Seated Monkey
Production: Unidentified Staffordshire factory
Cream earthenware press-moulded,splashed and streaked in manganese-brown under lead-glaze.
Dark cream earthenware, press-moulded, and decorated with random splashes and streaks of manganese-brown under lead-glaze. The monkey is seated on a shallow rectangular base with wavy sides, which is concave and glazed underneath, and has a ventilation hole under the figure. The monkey is seated with its right paw on its right thigh, and its left paw raised to put a fruit or other food into its mouth.
