Poodle
Production: Unidentified Staffordshire factory (Probably)
Cream earthenware painted in manganese-brown and greyish-green under lead-glaze
Cream earthenware, press-moulded, and painted in manganese-grown and greyish-green under lead-glaze; the underside of the base is concave, with a central ventilation hole, and apart from a small area in the middle is unglazed. The poodle reclines in profile to left on an elongated oval base with a rippled surface. It has a friendly expression and turns its head slightly towards the viewer. The curly hair on its head, ears and forequarters is brown, and the clipped area on its back and hind quarters has five distinct areas of denser brown.
History note: An English lady in Brussels; Yarwood’s shop in Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, where bought for £1.10s. on 15 June 1915 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
