Description

Cream earthenware painted in green and dark brown under lead-glaze

Cream earthenware, press-moulded, and painted in green, yellowish-brown, and dark brown under lead-glaze. The underside of the elongated oval base is is open under the rear end of the dog and is glazed overall. The spaniel is seated with its head turned towards the viewer and its tail curved round its right hind leg. It has a dark brown fur and wears a yellowish-brown collar. The top of the base and the supporting area between is paws and belly is green.

History note: Private owner at Earith, Cambs. from whom purchased by Mr Wordingham; sold by him to Stanley Woolston, Cambridge; bought from him for £4.10s. on 28 May 1927 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
