Red earthenware with details in white with impressed decoration, and greenish-yellowish lead-glaze. Wesley stands with his feet together on a high mound base. He wears a long gown; a stole represented by an applied strip of white clay impressed with small dots. He holds an open book in his left hand and has his right hand raised.

After John Wesley's death in 1791 he continued to be greatly revered. Busts and figures of him preaching were made in large numbers. This simple figure was probably made by Geroge Fishley during the 1840s. By the his son, Edmund, had taken charge of the family pottery, and Fishley senior seems to have turned his hand to modelling human and animal figures.
