Note

This bust was catalogued by Bernard Rackham in 1935 as John Welsey, but it is clearly derived from a Milton prototype such as the Ralph Wood earthenware bust. Comparison with the Enoch wood bust of Wesley or inferior versions such as the one attributed to J. Dale of Burlsem (C.973-1928) confirm that this is not Welsey. Nevertheless it is possible that the potter intended it to represent him.
