Description

Greyish-buff stoneware, with brown iron wash, producing a mottled surface under the salt-glaze. The jug has a bulbous body standing on a low slightly spreading foot, a cylindrical neck,with a cordon at its junction with the body, and a loop handle with a vertical groove.

Notes

History note: Found at the bottom of a well about 10 feet deep under staircase L in the Great Court of Trinity College, Cambridge in the summer of 1908 when the interiors of staircases L, M, and N were rebuilt. Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
